Life

By one very bored English student

Take a leaf from my book

Yeah, I guess there's a few books I'd like to recommend, or rather that I'd like to list here for future reference. I'd say that most of these books have provided me with inspiration, interest or just a few hours away from boredom.

Note: This is an ongoing list.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (J.R.R.Tolkien)

Aaaaah, wow, what can I say? I only wish I'd read this book sooner, then I'd have avoided a couple of years reading those soppy Harry Potter books. This is pure fantasy at its best, I mean... wow... this book began my sort of quest to research into the realm of fantasy. It provided me a doorway into Elves, wizardry, Hobbits and (best of all) beautiful prose. I love it!

1984 (George Orwell)

Everytime I read this book I hope the ending's gonna be different. It kills me everytime . I totally love the way people viewed it back in the 50's and, slightly geeky here, it helped me loads with my studies on the Cold War mindset and also with the fears that dictatorships and extreme communism place in peoples' minds. That, and it's an awesome book.

The Time Machine (H.G.Wells)

Well, if ever you wanted to know about evolution... this book just owns everything.

The Mortal Instruments Trilogy (Cassandra Clare)

So, I only just got into this series, but I'm sorta enthralled. The third and final book came out in the UK today, but penniless me hasn't been to buy it yet. *woe*. They're pretty great examples of urban fantasty, with a little snippet of gothic thrown in for good measure. Yeah, I know, I over-analyse stuff too much.
